INFRASTRUCTURE & LEARNING RESOURCES

The College has a vast Campus spread over 12.03 acres of land with adequate infrastructure facilities and resources to run various education programmes and administrative functions effectively. It has spacious building, lush green lawns, fully equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography laboratories, air conditioned high-tech Computer departments with internet facility, parking sheds, conference hall, Career Guidance Centre, an open air theatre, Girls Common Room and a big playground alongwith a separate room for Weight Lifting. There are also adequate arrangements for Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess and there is a Football, Volleball, Hockey, Cricket ground as well as a good racing track in the playground. There are adequate drinking water facilities and toiled blocks.

The College has a Central Library, which is managed by the Library Advisory Committee. It has about 50,000 books, 67 magazines and periodicals. Most of the Library services are to be computerized in near future. The library has a well furnished reading room. The College has a Book-Bank facilitiy also for the benefit of students.

The College has its own Generator, 2 Film Projectors, Xerox Machine, Duplicator Machine, Modern teaching techniques and tools like LCD Projector, etc. Water Coolers, Computerized Office and a beautiful Guest House for its distinguished Guests.

The College is located in a semi-urban area. It offers a wide range of course and programmes in faculty of Arts (Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Maths and Home Science), faculty of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology), faculty of Commerce (ABST, Business Administration and EAFM). The College has also started some professional and job-oriented courses, such as PGDCA, M.Sc. (I.T.) PG Diploma in Computer Accounting & Auditing and P.G. Diploma in Tax Practice, PG Courses in History, Political Science, ABST, Bus. Admn., Physics and Geography, The Institution is recognized by University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and 12(b) and affiliated to University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The College volunteered to be assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) (an autonomous institution of UGC) and submitted its self-study report to the NAAC in December 2003, consequently NAAC Peer Team visited and assessed College on 4th-5th August, 2004 and carefully analysed the study report and interacted at length with the members of the Managing Committee, Principal, Staff, Students, Parents and Ex-students of the College. The Peer Team also visited the various departments providing support services and after the watchful and exhaustive analysis, the Peer Team was deeply impressed and the College has been awarded B+ grade (Institutional Score 75% and above).

Smt. Laxmi Devi Somany Girls' wing

It is worth mentioning that on the demand of guardians, we have already started safe, separate and attractive girls' wing from the session 2007-08 to promote and encourage the women's education, and about 125 girls are enjoying studies in this campus. This campus has all the modern facilities like water-cooler with aqua-guard, green lawns and gardens, reading room, Indoor games and airy and spacious classrooms etc.

The College administration has decided that a special discount of 10% in the total fees would be given to the girls student from session 2009-10.

Teaching-Learning and Evaluation

The College has a transparent admission procedure. The students are selected for admission to the College strictly on merit. The Academic flexibility is available to the students to choose the course of study at their choice as per norms. The College is prepared teaching calendar in respective subject well before the commencement of academic session, a complete and an exhaustive academic calender is prepared in accordance with the University and Government norms in ensure affective teaching. Attention has always been paid to the mental and physical development of the students. The importance of written work has been emphasized in this institution since its inception. From time to time when opportunity and staff could be available tutorial/remedial classes are held for slow learners. Teachers in the College always follow the motto of 'talking with the students' and not merely 'talking to the students' while teaching. The method of discussion and giving guidelines is adopted in this College. Students are encouraged to interact with teachers. The College has also started continuous evaluation of the students. The student is evaluated on the basis of periodical tests, class tests, assignments, seminars, quiz, competitions and the final examination by the University.

The College is well known for its disciplined, dedicated and committed faculty. The College has freedom and resources to employ adhoc teachers depending upon the need of the departments. However, teachers are selected strictly on merit according to UGC/University/Government regulations. The college has 18 permanent and 27 temporary faculty members out of whom 18 are Ph.Ds and 15 are M.Phils. Faculty members are actively involved in research and writing articles and books etc. Teachers have participated in several seminars, conferences and refresher courses for updating their knowledge.

Organization and Management

The College is run by the Somany Education Trust. The College has a well-defined management structure with Managing Committee of the College as the apex body. Leading Industrialist and 'Ceramic King' Shri H.L. Somany is the president and Shri R.K. Somany is the Secretary of the Managing Committee. The Coordination and monitoring  mechanism is controlled by a large number of committee of teachers, which looks after various functions of the College administration under the overall supervision of the Secretary and the Principal.
